Marcy l'Etoile, France - May 23, 2006. bioMérieux, the world's third-largest diagnostic company in the field of infectious diseases, has won a new contract ; the company will be the exclusive provider of equipment for measuring HIV viral load in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
This contract covers the supply of several molecular biology platforms as well as tests to measure HIV viral load in real time. These quantitative tests, used to analyse the replication of the HIV virus in the human body, are a valuable tool for the diagnosis and treatment of patients.
bioMérieux, who already won the entire market for HIV viral load measurement in South Africa in 2004, once again demonstrates that their comprehensive molecular biology offer in the field of automated HIV viral load measurement (NucliSENS easyMAG® and NucliSENS Easy Q®) is one of the most appropriate for HIV diagnosis, notably in African countries.
"This new contract is part of bioMérieux’s mission to actively contribute to the fight against infectious diseases. It emphasizes the quality of our NucliSENS EasyQ and NucliSENS easyMAG products and the relevance of their use in vast campaigns against HIV, such as in Congo" says Benoît Adelus, Executive Vice-President of bioMérieux.
The Democratic Republic of Congo, with a total population of 54 million, has an estimated one million people infected with the HIV virus, according to official data from the World Health Organization (WHO).
